ZHENGYU CHEN

 

 

CHEN Zhengyu, born May 8, 1984 in Qingdao, China, began his piano studies at the age of four. From the age of seven, he started to distinguish himself by winning various youth piano competitions. In 1995, he entered Shanghai Conservatory to begin his professional piano study; his teachers in China included Mrs Sui Wenju, Mrs. Zhang Chongfang, Mrs. Ding Fengchen and Prof. Shao Dan. Since 2003, he has been studying with internationally renowned pianist Dang Thai Son at the University of Montreal and since 2008, CHEN Zhengyu has become the permanent resident in Canada.

 

Competition awards: 

- 3rd Prize at the China National Piano Competition (Senior Category) (2001). 

- Best Performance Prize at the 23rd Kirishima International Music Festival in Japan (2002).  

- 2nd Prize at the International Young Artist Piano Competition in Denver, Colorado, USA (2005). 

- 1st Prize at the Corpus Christi International Piano Competition in Texas, USA (2007)

- 1st Grand Prize (20,000Euro) and the Special Prize for the Best Soloist with Orchestra at the XVIth “Jose Iturbi” International Piano competition in Valencia in September 2008, Spain, in front of the prestigious jury such as Maria Tipo, Bella Davidovich, Joaquin Soriano, Fernando Puchol, Peter Lang…(2008)

 

Concert experiences:  

In 2001, Chen was chosen by Prof. Dang Thai Son to perform Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 with the Japan Aichi Gakusen University Orchestra for a tour of China, South Korea, Vietnam and Japan;

 

Since 2003, he has been invited every year to Japan for recitals in major cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Kobe; 

 

In June, 2007, he performed with the prestigious Kobe Chamber Orchestra;

 

In September, 2008, he performed with the Valencia Symphony Orchestra in Spain;

 

In February, 2009, he was invited as soloist to play with I Musici de Montreal at the Place des Art, Theatre Maisonneuve.

 

In April 2010, he performed with the New Japan Philharmonic in Sumida Triphony Hall in Tokyo, Japan

 

CHEN Zhengyu’s future concert engagements include recitals in Valencia, Madrid, Leon, Rome and is scheduled to appear again with the Valencia Symphony Orchestra in Spain.
